Hi. I'm Chandra Fischer. I am a traditional midwife (LM, CPM) currently practicing in Austin, TX. I am a native Minnesotan, who transplanted to Texas in the spring of 2012. My love for pregnancy, birth, and babies began in childhood (I was born at home during a Minnesota blizzard!) The eldest of five children, I adored hearing the story of my birth and happily carted around my younger siblings (once, at age 9, strapping my newborn sister into the baby carrier and walking over to the neighbors to play, without telling my poor mother.) In our house, birth was talked about, simply, joyously, as a part of life.
I've been married to my terrific husband, Bob, for 20 years and am "Mama" to my 15-year old daughter, Grayce, and my 12-year old son, Owen. When I'm not doing birth work, studying everything midwifery or homeschooling my children, I love traveling (our family lived in India for 2 years), practicing yoga, hiking, reading, writing, knitting & gardening.
In addition to a career, for over 10 years, as a Critical Care nurse, and a Birth Doula for 8 years, I engage in ongoing study of holistic health and nutrition, herbs and homeopathy and continuing midwifery education. I also have extensive experience leading mother-to-mother support meetings for women interested in preventing a cesarean section, recovering from cesarean and planning Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) and am committed to supporting VBAC/HBAC families.
